Series of 9 photo collages with different layers
each 20.7 x 16cm,
Inkjetprint on paper
This series of works displays female-coded bodies, one after the other layered on top of each other. Through this work, I wanted to explore the interplay between intimate, individual bodies and the seemingly brutal act of ripping and re-assembling.
I was interested in finding my own way of representing the nude: how I want to show bodies and interrogate their possibilities of display. Thus, not to show "the nude" as an idealized form as one knows it, but to find my honest, intuitive and personal artistic expression. I tried not to repeat stereotypes and common tropes of traditional nude photography of female-coded bodies.
The naked female body and its idealized image have been depicted across cultures in the past and the present, reproduced in magazines and across advertising, for example, in various ways. I was interested in making this reproduction visible by actually re-producing the body through its re-assembly.
The layers in my work show, no matter what you take or rip away from the photo, the exact same photo or body is underneath. Yet, with what consequences or compromises? Perhaps they cause further traces, scars, or injuries, thereby allowing different points of view to emerge from within.
